Cynthia R. Terry MSW, MAMFT was raised in Central New Jersey and moved to the Gwinnett, Georgia area over 10 years ago with her blended family. She has been married to her husband Steven for over 20 years. They have four grown children, and two grandsons. Cynthia earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmont Graduate University, a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Georgia (UGA). Cynthia is currently pursuing licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist; she is under the direction and supervision of Nikiya Spence, LCSW at Solutions of Life.
Cynthia has experience working with a wide variety of people and issues in her career in the counseling field. She has worked with families, married couples, premarital couples, adult individuals, and groups. Cynthia has worked her at Bethany Christian Services where she counseled couples and individuals going through the adoption process and struggles that are associated with children who have experienced trauma in their lives. At GROW Counseling, she gained experience working with women attempting to leave the life of prostitution and were making efforts to regain positive self-esteem, self-worth, and handle the trauma they have experienced. She likewise facilitated marital groups which worked on communication, intimacy, conflict resolution, forgiveness, roles, and other issues pertaining to marriage. At The Hope Center, she worked with couples, families, and individuals, dealing with grief & loss, depression, self-esteem, spirituality, conflict, anger, self-worth, co-dependency, and boundaries.
Cynthia utilizes family systems, brief solutions, CBT, transgenerational, and a plethora of other theories that help her clients obtain the skills and tools they need. She operates under a collaborative approach where the client and the therapist work together throughout the therapeutic process. She is a Christian and utilizes as much or as little of word of God that an individual desires to incorporate in their counseling sessions. Cynthia’s desire and heart is to give each person she comes in contact with a safe place to explore and express their thoughts and feelings without being judged or condemned, thereby allowing each individual the opportunity to grow and make the necessary changes that increase their ability to be more fulfilled in relationships and lives.
